Yesterday was hard…
I had 23 miles to do but it wasn’t just any 23 miles.
It was on the TREADMILL
If you know me, you know that running on the treadmill is one of my least favorite things to do. It is just so boring
BUT I needed to do it so I could train for the mountains during the Tahoe 200.
So I went for it.
By the time I was 1 hour in, I was drenched in sweat and my mind was trying to negotiate…
”You should just break it up in half and finish the rest later.”
“What if you did a weighted vest walk outside for some of the miles then finished up the rest at night.”
And I almost gave in. Imagine being on a treadmill for 4 hours.
Even the thought of it is painful! 😂
So I took a 5 minute break and remembered something… “this is exactly what I am training for.”
The more I can overcome the desire to quit during training, the better I will be at it during my race.
That was a huge reframe for me.
What if we all looked at the hard days of training as a teacher rather than complain how bad it is?🤷🏼♂️

Because I tend to overcomplicate things except for in running
For example to run the Leadville 100 here’s how I trained👇
Rest Mondays
Strength train Mon - Fri
Run roughly 7 miles a day
Long run on Saturday and Sunday
Of course there are some complexities as you get deeper into it but looking back on it it was very simple
So then why do I overcomplicate other things in life?🤷♂️
This is my reminder to myself and maybe you need it too
It’s a lot simpler than you think but it may be harder and take longer than you want
Man I’m so ungrateful…
This has probably been my worst week of running training in so long
I came back from traveling, got sick, had to get caught back up on work and training sort of just spiraled downward
I was supposed to get in like 70 miles and I’ve run like 15…
But then today I was sitting in a coffee shop when a girl with an amputated leg walked in…

Thanks for that reminder God

Growing up I never really participated in any sort of Christian small groups because none of my friends did
Honestly, I worried a lot what my friends would think of me if I went to a Younglife meeting or something like that
Somehow that was classified to be for the “weird kids”

To be honest after Ultraman Arizona I took a little break but now we’re back!
One of the most important things for me during this prep is to strengthen my mind
To get into a state where my mindset is unbeatable
That will come by doing things that I don’t want to do.
EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
So this is just the first step

It’s been 31 days since Ultraman Arizona
So today I wanted to share my next race
Ever since I saw @davidgoggins run 100 miles in a day, I have started tackling different challenges myself
It was 52 miles
Then 60 Miles
Then 100 miles
Then Rim To Rim To Rim in the Grand Canyon
And then I did 3 x 100 mile races in 2022 to qualify for the Badwater 135
But during May of last year I heard a race director named @runcandicerun say 200 is the new 100…
So I went to their website and checked it out
Turns out they were advertising the Triple Crown Of The 200s
Three 200+ mile races in one year and if you signed up for all of them at once, you automatically get in
You don’t have to be picked for the lottery
So I sent it!

Irving Marathon experience in 3 pictures
TRANSFORMATIONAL
I got the pictures back from the Irving Marathon today and had to share these
My friend I’m pictured with, Mike, finished his first marathon in just under 4.5 hours and it was an emotional moment for sure
Mike used to be an overweight alcoholic and he just celebrated 4 years of sobriety after running his first marathon🙌🏽
He is a testament to what’s possible
No matter where you’re at, you don’t have to stay there
It’s not easy but which would you rather have… the pain of discipline or the pain of regret🤔
I didn’t always prioritize recovery…
But that changed this year
As I get into bigger races with less recovery time this year, I know it’s going to be super important that I recover well
I think of recovery in 2 categories
1 = The basics that everyone can control and should do
- Sleep well
- Eat well
- Hydrate well (water + electrolytes)
- Stretch
2 = The bonuses to make your recovery even better once you’re already doing the basics
- Cold plunge
- Cryo
- Red light
- Massage
- Compression boots
- Hydration IVs
In my mind it doesn’t make sense to do the bonuses unless you’re doing the basics
And I’ve just got the basics down for the most part so I’m having fun exploring the bonuses
I can’t wait to see my recovery score from tonight
I always sleep amazing after a massage

During the summer of 2019 I stumbled across a book called Can’t Hurt Me
It was about a guy who defied all odds and went from being 300+ lbs to becoming a Navy Seal and achieving a laundry list of other accomplishments
I was listening to the audiobook and every sentence seemed to make me want to run further
Then I heard his story about running 100 miles in a day…
It was so captivating and created so much curiosity in me
I had already started to try and push physical limits through running a marathon but I couldn’t believe someone had done 100 miles in a day
Especially without being a runner!
This sparked something in me and for whatever reason I thought, “If Goggins can do it with minimal training, I can probably do it if I train.”
So I went for it…
And now I’m 4 x 100 milers deep.
I don’t say that to toot my own horn but to show what’s possible
My hope is that what I do gives you a similar thought process
“If Pierce can do x I can at least do y!”
That happened this weekend and it was one of the most rewarding feelings!🙏🏽

The boys took over the Banya tonight 🔥🧊
Great way to recover after my first real weekend back since Ultraman
Saturday - 26.2 mi pacing my marathon guys
Sunday - 5 mi easy
So tonight we did 4 rounds of hot cold and I feel as good as new!
Highly recommend doing rounds like this. It is one of my favorite recovery methods🙌🏽

It was so incredible watching each of them dig deep and the different breakthroughs they had as a result of doing something hard

Pierce just became the youngest person to ever complete Ultraman Arizona (look it up, absolutely wild race) and is taking on the Triple Crown of 200-mile trail races this summer.
He’s crushing life and inspiring so many people (myself included).
So excited for this episode to drop!

One of the biggest 🔑s to endurance races in my book is to be able to enjoy the moment
Because if you think about it… who is going to win👇🏽
1. The person who is present in the moment, enjoying it, and grateful for the opportunity
OR
2. The person who’s grinding through every second pushing themselves to keep going
Person #1 wins any day of the week
It definitely does require grit but I’ll bet you the person who enjoys it can go a lot further than the other
And if you’re soaking it all in the time goes by faster
So I just wanted to encourage you with that today
If you don’t enjoy running, try slowing it down to a conversational pace and running in a cool environment. Trails are my favorite because they take my mind off of it
Please excuse me while I go sleep for 3 weeks…😂
My Whoop recovery is not looking so hot
But in all seriousness there’s no question that an ultraman, Ironman, Marathon, or similar race puts a physical demand on your body
After doing several of these, here are a couple of things I do/keep in mind right after a race
- Get as much sleep as possible
- Don’t expect your typical output
- A little bit of a come down/short term depression is normal because all of the emotions and high of finishing
- Massages, hydration IVs, compression boots, and cold therapy are your friend
- First 2 weeks = unstructured activity whatever I feel like (I’d rather be doing recovery methods like above than anything else)
- After that I start to slowly build back
The overall biggest thing I’ve learned is to not judge myself during times right after a race
For the longest time I couldn’t figure out why I would go through what was like a come down after a race
Since then I’ve had others confirm it’s totally normal
So as always… STAY JOYFUL👊🏽

It has been hard to put into words the magnitude of this weekend but I will try to do that here and in a couple more posts following!
First off, thank you so much for all of your messages, videos, and posts encouraging me. The support was way more than I could have imagined and I am extremely grateful for that
Over the last couple of years, God has put it on my heart to use ultra endurance achievements as a platform to share my faith and inspire other young people.
Through this journey it has become less about me achieving some goal and more about what impact I could have on people.
The impact is important to me because I know how much David Gogigns running 100 miles and Jesse Itzler completing an ultraman has changed my life.
So this year I set out to do the same for others.
Not saying that you have to run 100 miles or do an ultraman, but you should do something!
Hard for me may be an ultraman but for you it could be a 5k.
It’s your hard that matters though.
Because when you do hard things intentionally, you’re more capable to handle the hard things that life throws at you
A really cool thing that happened before the race was even over is that the goal was accomplished!
One of the guys on my crew, John, was inspired and committed to run his first 5k!!
Now if you’re reading this and I’ve inspired you in any way, I want to encourage you to commit to a distance that challenges you.
It’s not about me or someone else you compare yourself too.

Thank you so so much for all of your support. Prayers were answered and I felt supernatural endurance all weekend long
So much so that I ran some of my fastest miles in the last 6 miles of the race and past the athlete in 3rd with only 2 miles to go!!

Can’t believe it is already here!
132 weeks ago (2 years and 7 months) I saw through Instagram that @jesseitzler was doing a race called and Ultraman
At the time it seemed like a nearly impossible challenge but something about it made me want to do it
Seeing Jesse share about it inspired me
But the problem was I needed to be 21 to do it
Maybe I could’ve found a way to get in but I decided to just put it on the back burner
That is until now
In two days I will be taking on @ultramanarizona
This race will consist of 3 days
Day 1 - Friday
🏊🏼 6.2 mi
🚴🏽 90 mi
Day 2 - Saturday
🚴🏽 171.4 mi
Day 3 - Sunday
🏃🏽 52.4 mi
I was inspired to do this race by seeing Jesse and it is my hope that through doing this I inspire you to put something hard on the calendar!
Everybody’s hard is different but by doing hard things you unlock your potential

What a powerful weekend at @awakenchurchsd Emerge Men’s conference🙌🏽
This weekend about 3,000 men gathered in the desert to grow. We worshipped, we heard from amazing pastors/speakers, we had competitions, we burned burdens and so much more
It’s so inspiring to see so many men from all around want to grow in their relationship with God
I highly recommend coming if you can next year as I’m super grateful for all of the amazing relationships I was able to build.🙏🏽
